Various Methods of Genital Warts Treatments

There are a plethora of genital warts treatments but although they might be successful in making the warts disappear for a period of time, they’ll never totally cease the infections.  And the reason for this is that genital warts are brought on by a virus.  Therefore, these different genital warts treatments only treat the various symptoms and not the actual causes.

If you happen to find an outbreak of genital warts, you will need to go to your GP straight away.  They can let you know about the different types of treatments available.  Some may not be effective for everyone, and some may work once or twice but not a third time.

The first type of genital warts treatment is a cream.  These topical treatments include Imiquimod, a cream that helps the body battle the genital warts.  Another is Podofilox, a cream that actually destroys the tissue of the warts.  Another is Trichloracetic acid.  While the first two creams may be used at home, this final treatment may only be applied to warts by a doctor because it can be harmful if applied too heavily or to other areas.  Note that here are no over-the-counter genital wart creams.

For larger warts or genital warts that don’t respond to creams, surgery may be necessary.  There are several options here, too.  Warts may be frozen off using liquid nitrogen, burned off with electrocautery, or even cut off using special tools.  A newer treatment is laser surgery, although this is expensive.  Doctors usually only recommend laser surgery as a last resort.
